  1. If they trade or release Floyd, they will have an expensive hole to fill. The FA pool is empty, that is why teams are lining up to pounce. If a team trades, the draft is also bare meaning they might need to make a move up to get the 3rd or 4th ranked player. I have no beef with Floyd and his agent knowing this and using the leverage to their advantage. The Bears are in poor position right now (pay the 13 million ransom, trade him and hopefully get some value, or cut him and take the loss)
  2. Would you believe that Patrick Mahomes could not read defenses until halfway through this past season. Just saying eventually it happens and hoping Mitch is not too far back on the curve.
  3. To pursue him now and tamper is just bad. If they want to bring him in for a look after, so be it. I think he would offer more than Chase. I still say live or die with Mitch. He floats the team one way or the other into the future. He sinks, then the Bears draft pick is better in 21 and we have a better chance at another "franchise". He rises, then we are on track for Paces vision. Use this years draft to get those missing pieces (OL, TE, speed wr, #2 RB) to help the QB whether its Mitch or that 2021 pick. Now if they sit in the pond half sunk by mid-season, pull the plug and let it sink. Trubisky walks and we hopefully have a pick in the top 10.
  4. "The Chicago Bears will now forfeit their 2021 first round pick for tampering with Giants QB Eli Manning" I just dont see the value of taking this risk. Might need to beat the Patriots who are linked to have interest.
  5. The Bears cannot tamper with Eli. An internet beat writer posted this yesterday and now it's all over social media.

Haha, leave the old guys alone.

It is always a coin toss... I recall a guy recently with a cannon....Mahomes.

I do want OLT from Auburn Prince Tego, he is raw and could possibly play OG year one. He would be a round 2 pick. Not sure RG, but LG to start. They wont be adding salary along the line, so Williams only comes if they trade Leno and a 5th. It burns me they never draft OTs.
  9. ASHKUM BEAR replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
He may need replacing, but OLT is the hardest position besides QB. To just throw a 2nd round draft pick in and trust your QB will survive is not wise. I was never in the Leno is good boat, just in the it is not an easy transition and our resources are limited. I want the Bears to draft a RG and OT, because Massie and Leno need to be upgraded and they need a replacement for Long. Does Barr fit in this equation is yet to be seen.
  10. https://www.si.com/nfl/bears/news/how-bears-can-continue-backing-leonard-floyd This seems to give a little more optimism from the teams view on Floyd. I still believe it comes down to an extension. He needs to land more sacks for sure, but the team as a whole fell off there last year too. That is part of a result of not giving the defense a lead to take more risks. Find a way to spread out his contract, use our capital to fill openings, not create more, and keep investing in offense so we can get that part right for once. Openings: RG, ILB, SS, CB Positions to upgrade: OT, TE, QB, speed WR Positions to reinvest, depth/competition: OLB, RB, DT We will see how Pace plans to attack these positions in a few weeks. OLB all depends on an extension, but rotation depth is still needed.

No disagreements, I don't see him having value worth a trade. His value to the Bears would/should be a 3rd RD. Not getting that. Let him play out his contract and if he walks, so be it. They should get a comp value

I want to know who wanted to keep Kendall Wright. Ill admit I liked Meredith but trusted the Bears on letting him go. Pace was establishing a track record on letting guys go like Forte, so I never doubted. Prince and Gabriel were obvious releases. Floyd at 13.4 is out of the question, I see an extension or trade. Shaheen will get a shot in tc. Cohen is not leaving unless an offer is made. Along the oline, I dont see much change except at RG. They can attempt to fix LT but that will be expensive and limit the team on signing their own or bringing in. I expect a draft pick to compete.

I think Nagy used him too much and teams figured him out. He will not cut back and turn upfield once he starts running for the edge. When he thinks about it, he stops and ends up running backwards trying to find space.

  15. Chase Claypool WR/TE ND ran a 4.43.
  16. I kinda hope they extend him to team friendly deal. He is not bad out there and has shown ability in a game or two against GB to get to the QB. Is there a stat or has anybody tracked him how often his responsiblity is to go for the sack? If they cannot reach an extension, they have to try and trade him. Cutting him and paying the one year are both bad.
  17. Ha, no worries it will stay in house. All jokes aside, some writer probably read it here when drawing blanks for his/her daily piece.

Or before getting there, maybe in the mound again for a MLB team.
  21. ASHKUM BEAR replied to McGowan's topic in Bearstalk
Or Nagy can create a running offense that compliments his players to not throw the Defense away. His offensive creation may blow defenses away if he ever has all the right pieces to make it work, but the 80 pass 20 run is not fooling anyone right now.
  22. ASHKUM BEAR replied to McGowan's topic in Bearstalk
Would Carr fit in an RPO? The Bears are not making adjustments to suit Trubisky, would they make them to suit Carr? There is speculation that Brady might end up in LV also. I would wait it out and let them cut Carr.
  23. Many teams use the concepts. The opposing defenses see the offense running out two TEs which might dictate run, so they may send out or leave in a LB. The U is going to be the more talented, which doesnt mean they cannot block. They can line up over the OT or motion out wide or sometime lineup as a RB. The Y is usually the stronger blocker but occasionally sneaks out on a route. The thing is, you have to run the ball. Marching out two TEs doesnt sell run when it is known it will be pass anyways.
  24. Y is your traditional inline blocking TE. U is basically a slot WR but a TE. Lines up anywhere along the line.
  25. Not much beef on 79" of frame. From Windy City Gridiron: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.windycitygridiron.com/platform/amp/2020/2/19/21144583/chicago-bears-sign-former-chiefs-browns-tight-end-demetrius-harris-free-agency The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Harris has impressive length for the tight end position, and his starting experience gives the Bears some much-needed experience to their current group of players. Touted for being a talented blocking tight end during his time with the Chiefs, he fits the in-line ‘Y’ tight end role.
