What are you doing making that much sense on this board? lol
-
I AM SERIOUS!!!! A year older on guys that are already old can have a drastic effect. Plus little nicks and injuries result in worse play for older guys. You think that people blitzed us last year because they thought they could catch Benson. And you blame him getting hit in the backfield on poor vision? That is what is a load of h.s. How is he supposed to get to a second gear if he is hit in the backfield? lol What you are saying just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And what is pointless is to compare TJ's ypc two years ago to Benson's last year. I gave you their ypc for both of them last year. Its a wonder how the great vision and second gear of TJ led him to 1 touchdown and 3.6 ypc. How do you explain such a drop in production? And the second game of Vikes vs Bears..... here are some quotes from ESPN's analysis: "Trampled by Adrian Peterson the last time they met, Brian Urlacher and the Chicago Bears figured out how to stop Minnesota's star rookie for the better part of three quarters. At least until it really counted." and "In the second half, the Vikings started running the ball to the left side with RB Adrian Peterson gaining 56 of his 78 yards after halftime. Going behind the power blocking of OT Bryant McKinnie and OG Steve Hutchinson, Peterson managed to give the ground game a jump start, which helped the Vikings to overcome a three-interception performance by QB Tarvaris Jackson." Look at that....when AP started running behind an All Star combo at guard and tackle, he did better. Kind of supports my argument, doesn't it.

and Brian Baldinger says that Mendy is better than McFadden because when he scouted MCF he has poor vision, poor base, doesn't make people miss, and tries to out run everybody which wont work in the pros. Interesting info for all the Mendy lovers.
-
Really??? How many times do you remember him making guys miss in the backfield? He was making people miss and breaking tackles in the secondary. And everyone could tell when AP was on the field as opposed to Taylor, huh? AP's ypc was 5.6. Taylor's was 5.4. Shoot AP's longest run was 73 yards. TAylor's was 84 yards. Hell Mewelde Moore's ypc was 5.7. Looks to me like it didn't matter who was behind that line, they were getting 5 and a half yards per pop. And you want to look at Miami? Lets do it. Brown had 5.1 ypc, Jessie Chapman had 4.0 ypc and Lorenzo Booker had 4.5 ypc. Looks like the line was pretty good. And two years ago Benson was not considered a "bust" . He was a nice compliment to TJ who knew how to get north/south when TJ danced too much. The Super Bowl year TJ and BEnson both averaged THE SAME behind a good line 4.1 ypc. Look at this year. Benson 3.4 ypc and TJ 3.6 both behind worse lines. And to bring TJ into the discussion on how important a line is, just makes the point for me. If you look over his career, TJ's production is directly tied to the line he plays behind. The only way a running back makes a line look better is if the back is one of the greatest in NFL history. Like a Barry Sanders and Walter Payton. And the only time Payton won a Super Bowl was when the line was awesome. And its pretty easy to believe that a line can go from good (they were never considered great) to garbage especially if some people get injured and 30 somethings get a year older. And I would love to see your statistical evidence that without TJ our line was "exposed". What statistical facts do you use to prove that?
-
Um yeah I did. What I saw was that AP didn't get touched until he was in the secondary or not at all. Maybe you watched a different game. And there are maybe one or two guys max a year in FA that make a true difference in the line. The Jake Scott's are nothing more then filler and no better than a Ruben Brown, or St. Clair. You need to build a line through the draft. Period.
-
You mean AP and the good oline Minny has. AP wouldn't have been quite the gamebreaker behind our POS line. If we draft Mendy and put him behind this crap line this board will crying about another busted RB taken in the first round. It never ceases to amaze me that people dont get that the line is where the offense starts. And please spare me the lecture about FA linemen and say the answer is a guy that got cut by San Diego. The ONE good FA lineman signed for an insane amount of money. You have to grow your own.

I'll be honest....this is one of the best mocks I've seen on this site. I'm starting to like Alberts more and more.
-
Well since normally we'd get jack squat I'm happy with the result.
-
I actually like this pick. I for one dont mind reaches if I like the player or he is a fit for our team. I am a big Miami fan and was absolutely overjoyed when we took Hester even though 95% of this board blasted the choice. I had followed him in college and knew what he could do with the ball in his hands.
-
Yeah, So looking at those Vasher, Harris and Hester are all pretty bad.
-
Yeah but what was Hester's wonderlic? That guy is not very smart, but awful good.
-
lol Anything tangible or just your "expert" analysis?
-
Whatever dude. He "left like a baby"? No reason for the disrespect. Especially when you dont know everything that went on. That guy added more to the forum in one post than you have done ever. And to the "higher ups", there is absolutely no reason why a guy who does that much work and adds such an in depth analysis to something 95% of the people on the board have no clue about should be allowed to leave. Thats really poor and disappointing on your part. He has done it for the four years I have been a part of the community and its really a great reference tool and will be sorely missed.
-
lol If it makes you feel any better, I don't like it.
-
Totally agree. And he didn't seem to have that "vision" problem two years ago when he was giving TJ breaks and looking good.
-
Terrible argument. What happens if we draft Mendenhall and he is the next Enis? And I do remember you calling the drafting of Hester terrible. Point being that nothing is guaranteed in a draft. But I do know that without a good oline nobody looks good.
-
There ya go Terra, you are finally starting to get it. Linemen before backs. I'm proud of you man.
-
Good point. I think we should always look to trade out of the first round for 2nd and 3rd round picks. The value is just much better. For every Adrian Peterson there are 10 guys who dont earn their huge contracts.
-
Terrible draft. If that draft happens, next year we are talking about why our quarterbacks suck, our receivers are bad, and why Mendenhall is a bust cause he gets hits in the backfield. Then you will be complaining that we didn't overpay for mediocre free agent linemen. We need to draft at least two olinemen in the first three rounds to build our line.
-
I'd consider it an upgrade
-
I'd be more worried if we were throwing big money at mediocre players. That kills you more in the future then anything else. The reason we haven't made an offer to Olivea is because he is garbage. You dont bring in a guy who is no better than what we have just because he plays Oline. And Payne looked pretty good to me last year. I agree we need to upgrade the oline, but why get all upset right now?
-
To me he is just another body. His return skills dont impress me. His receiving skills dont impress me. We can easily get another guy to run down on coverage teams. Plus it would open a spot for a Hass or Rideau who I would like to see.
-
That is a good point. I think the problem for Wolfe is the crappy oline really makes him look bad. From what I saw, when the hole was there or he got the ball into space he looked nice. If he gets hit behind the line or there are no holes he looks bad. But I guess that the same of CBenson too. Then you get unrealistic people on the boards saying these running backs can't "break tackles" even though they are getting hit before or at the LOS. I personally like Wolfe and I think if we can get some linemen that will move people he can be quite nice.

What do you guys think? Is he fast enough to counter Benson's style?
