This thread goes back 4 games and references even earlier in the season. There is no such thing as a meaningless win that early, period. We were in the playoff hunt until this last game which we should've won along with two or three others. Yes, better talent would've certainly helped this team win those games with all the heart and coaching. But you don't write off any games as early as you were talking about being happy they didn't win meaningless games. That's Dan Bernstein talk and he's friggen jackass ego-maniac moron. This team, flawed as it is, should still be in the hunt and I'd be a lot happier, as would they, if they were. You're happy to play for next year. So be it.

I think we can all agree if the same exact thing happened to Rodgers, Manning or Brady there'd have been a penalty, fine and likely lynching.

And what are you supposed to do, ask your guys to give less than 100% because you want to lose and draft better players than them? Ridiculous. You play every damn game to win, make the playoffs if you can and then let the chips fall where they may. That 2006 team surprised all the way to the Superbowl and probably would've won it with a touch more luck. Talk about a team with flaws, it had several. I see Jason's point if you're in the last few weeks of a down season, you play younger guys, etc to get them some experience and forget about winning or losing. That's fine and different than going into early season games and coming out happy we lost. That's contrary to everything I know about competition and building a winning attitude.

I agree with you. Lot's of cheaper answers than Gould for that level of production. And deeper kickoffs. No, it's pretty clear his career with the Bears is done unless he's willing to give back some of that money and shows some improvement. At current rates and production level he's a huge disappointment.

It's kind of a$$hole-ish that you bring this thread back every time they lose a game they should've won. Frankly it doesn't support your point either so it's also sorta dumb. If they'd won all of the games you're using to make your point they'd be in first place in their division. We all realize the Bears are a flawed team but there are only a few teams out there that are "flawless" in any given year. The Packers and Vikings are both flawed. Further, to say teams are better off sucking to improve their draft position has never proven out. New England is drafting at the back of the line 99% of the years and look at them. The Lions draft at the top every year and look at them. It's how you use your picks and coach your players up wherever they're acquired. The loss yesterday was a W that Robby pissed away, end of discussion. We make that kick we aren't talking about all of the other obvious issues with this team because THEY OVERCAME them. Which absolutely should've happened yesterday. Teams learn what they're made of in those moments. The lessons the Bears are learning from losing games like this are detrimental to their future.

I also mentioned Gase's offense in my post, which Jason was replying to. So, yes, it's definitely that they're playing it conservatively and that they're getting the ball out faster. But I don't think you can say it's 100% just that, I think when things improve as they have, you have to give a little credit to the line as well. At a minimum, the coaches having the balls to move Long, which I was leery of myself, seems to have been a smart idea given the holes elsewhere. Talent on offense which has been banged up as all hell all season.

It doesn't hurt that there are 24 QB's in the NFL that have been sacked more than Cutler too. I think that has something to do with Gase's offense and an overall improvement in our line play.

Fact is they got embarrassed on National TV. They ferked up the Favre game and that's going to last a generation. It's hurting, you can tell. And I LOVE IT!!! Fact is they got most of the calls that were called wrong. Fact is McCarthy isn't actually a very good coach. He's a fat ass troll with great talent handed to him. Fox and Fangio kicked his ASS. Fact is they aren't in first place and the team ahead of them isn't very good. Given all these facts, if there's a way the Packers fall apart and don't make the playoffs, I could see them firing a head coach.

And I have to ask it again... Anyone STILL believe there's such a thing as a meaningless win? Sure, it's tough. But if we'd have won even one of the two games we should've, we'd be that much closer to the playoffs. And I assume we'll lose early in those hypothetical playoffs but how much positive can come from getting a team with this many new pieces, mostly young, some playoff experience? I'd say even a single playoff game would leave them with a taste they'd remember all off season which would be great heading into camp next year. Lessons are learned via experience. We won't get that opportunity this year unless we're incredibly lucky.

Yeah, I guess I'm saying I wouldn't worry too much about his workload. He's been a horse for years and so it won't impact him much if the Bears bring him back for a few more years. If they more on, his workload won't matter at all. I'm sure he wants to showcase his talents as the season wraps up. If he didn't, he'd just take his current injury and ride it out for the rest of the year. He wants to tell other teams looking at him "I'm durable." If he decides a one year deal (maybe two) is all he needs to stay with the team, I hope the Bears hang onto him.

Does the SOS calc you're using take into account future games or just games to date? If it take into account future games and all else is equal, if we lose to Green Bay, I'm all for playing the rest of the season like it's next year's extended preseason. I didn't think we were this close to a top pick given all the absolutely shitty teams in the NFL this season.

Question... When you get to the point of the season you're playing guys with an eye toward the future, do you continue to play Forte? I do. Because we already know what we have in our other guys and Matt is: 1. Playing for his future contract, likely elsewhere 2. Less valuable to the Bears and therefore potentially the "better guy to get hurt" if it happens. Not that I want to see Matt leave nor do I want to see him hurt, but given his age and the likelihood of his leaving, I'd play it that way. Thoughts?
