  1. In the first draft, I think the Fields trade is a realistic get in compensation. I don't think a LT is in the cards with the progress of Braxton Jones. It would be an upgrade but he's redrafting a position he thinks will keep getting better when he can use those picks on a star DL, or weapon for whoever the QB is. I also like the Irving pick, speed speed and more speed. Legette and Bowers would be huge.
  2. They have a very young team, I think they redo some contracts to get some space. Bakhitari being released saves 20 mil. They lose AJ Dillion, both starting Ss, Jon Runyan, several DBs. Cheap UFA will fill some of those spots . Other than Bakhitari , they save no money on cutting good vets. A big off season coming up for them. As Adam stated, Love is going to further blow up the cap.
  3. I think they got input from Waldron on what he would do with Justin and any of the rookies. They clearly have not made a decision on QB without fully venting all the rookies, that would be dumb . Having a competent play caller will help any QB starting in 2024.
  4. Plus Poles is building thru the draft , not trading boat load of picks for anyone. His trades he has made are one pick for one player.
  5. On a scale from 1 to 10 Mahomes is the 10, Justin is a 6. That's a starting caliber QB in the NFL. He's not a trash QB. His problem is passing consistency, other talents his has is outstanding.
  6. They worked together in Seattle, just because you interviewed for a job doesn't mean you're going to get one. He could wait around and then not get one, he doesn't seem to be at the top of a lot of lists for a OC jobs. CEO compared to janitor may be a bad comparison from OC to QB jobs. More likely a department head.
  7. I read Greg Olsen would come as the QB coach, same job he had in Seattle. That's the two most important positions filled right away.
  8. It's always fun to look at getting a particular player but as Adam presented it, if finances doesn't work out it, it's just fantasy.
  9. We all look at highlights films and think we can tell what a great QB looks like but GMs do interviews, review in-depth reports we never get privy to. It's take .more than a great arm to lead a team . If Poles think one of them can be a tier 1 QB , he will draft him, be ready if he doesn't because its possible, none of them are and he's not JUST drafting anyone. He said he had to be blown away.
  10. I read where if the Bears hire Shane Waldron, that Greg Olson may come as his QB coach. It's the same arrangement they had in Seattle together.
  11. I will give them credit for always having a good OL, they had SF on the ropes early. They should have had a couple of those interceptions and we could be maybe seeing GB and Detroit in the conference finals. I'm in Cabo at a bar where 2/3 of the crowd was GB fans . It was awesome watching them cry in their beer.
  12. Agree, everyone looks at the record but you have to gage the improvement as you judge bad teams. We beat Detroit and loss a !lackluster game to the Packers who was playing great at the end of the season. Poles put us in the position to add 4-5 very good players between FAgency and the draft. We will look like a different team next year.
  13. Stop it AG, the great QBs throw for over 300 yards every game.
  14. Williams is the only one carrying the ( generational) tag, so when you talk about other draftees it's a little bit of a different conversation. Maye is the only other QB that all these great experts say could start right away in the league. That means everyone else will need a bridge QB to get to a point that they could start. So if Poles drafts one of them you may well have our starting QB still here. I seen 3 games of Maye and he has all the measurables but didn't look great in those games. So I would say he will not start early as a rookie. Depending on where he goes, he may not get to the field in his first year. I think in Poles mind , if Williams survives the deep dive, he's the only day one starter. So it's Williams or bust.
  15. If anyone is interested, Greg Gabriel lets some information out about questions on Caleb Williams. It's about 15 minutes into the podcast so you don't have to listen to the whole podcast. I'm on my tablet so its hard to send the link. Its his latest Gabriel Talks Football from January 17th. Maybe Adam can do the link.
  16. I just watched a Greg Gabriel podcast and come to find out he has been employed by the Bears over the last 3 years. He is involved in work comp cases related to Bears released injured players. A huge friend with Stein who hired him. He said Warren wants his guys in place dealing with finances. Said the McCaskys loved Stein but let Warren fire him, showing their not in control anymore. Also was talking about scouting on Williams. He said some things will come out that doesn't look good on his behalf but is the most talented QB in the draft . He said he's not guaranteed he goes # 1. He said that if they pass on a player , they always have a reason. Character, injury history, leadership issues. He said they passed on Pickens (WR) because of attitude issues. Same for Jaylon Carter.
  17. To be honest, he seems like the most ready to play day one. Williams seems to need to change some habits to be successful right away. Has a lot of traits that Justin had coming out. Holds the ball to long, bails from the pocket quickly and fumbles a lot.
  18. Ben Johnson also interviewed for Chargers job, I seen on X , I thought your season had to be over before you can interview? X is not the most reliable place for truth. Not sure how that works when teams have yet to fill the GM job first. Maybe Harbaugh is demanding to much control and brings his own GM candidate with him.
  19. I get your concerns, as I said, if Williams is a tier. 1 QB, Poles will take him. At this point it's about trying to figure out what Poles is going to do. It's not set in stone, he's taking Williams, lots of analysis left to figure it out.
  20. I watch tape and form opinions, my question is why do so many ex NFL players and ex QBs still think Fields can be a star? These are people in a locker room, played the position , and have a better perspective than me. No way I'm smarter than them. This causes me to put more faith in their opinions. Am I wrong about that? I liken it to a uber driver taking me to a doctors appointment and listening to him instead of the doctor about my health.
  21. I agree with that but we have hindsight in that situation, if SF wins the SB what do people say with Brock Purdy as their QB? Or even Baltimore with the last pick in the first round. Nothing is absolute.
  22. Totally agree, Young may be good one day and it's exactly the scenario for Fields. Bad coaching and undone roster. That's why I think Poles may still be roster building. I think, he thinks, he is one year away from a grab the QB and run. Imo
  23. There is all kind of examples to show whatever narrative you wish to prove. If Williams is a tier one QB, I have no doubt we take him but no one knows that yet. As near as last year, A team took Bryce Young with that same thought. How did that work out?
  24. If we analyzed every throw Mahomes makes , you easIily could find thinks to criticize him for if your objective is perfection.
  25. The key for Justin is you can see him get better, no one thinks he is good enough yet. Many examples of QBs being better later than in the beginning of their career. Browning, Geno Smith, , Baker Mayfield, Kurt Cousins, Jared Goff, even Lamar Jackson is a better passer these days. He is a unique athlete and we need a OC to design an offense to fit his skill set. He only needs to make 5 pocket passes a game to be successful in this league. Baker Mayfield Jared Goff Brock Purdy Jordon Love Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Lamar Jackson Stroud There are only 3 tier one QBs left in the playoffs, Stroud doesn't count with only one yr played. Does this fact say anything about winning in the NFL?
