2008 NFL Draft - Bears' View According to Drew Boylhart from The Huddle Report.com: “If the Bears don't pick an O-lineman at this spot (#14) then the team will not improve.“ I agree with this statement, but not the use of a double negative nor the selection of Gosder. Furthermore, I understand not everyone would agree with the statement, yet, I think most can see the logic for the assertion. It is for that reason that I began my 2008 NFL draft analysis with the offensive linemen. I tried to arrange the players within a given position according to an aggregation of media review (film and print), scout opinions (NFL.com, draft sites, etc.), and th…

http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft08/ins...dmcshaymock0423 Some different players here than we've seen, but except for a blocking TE instead of one of the late round WRs, I would be THRILLED with these Bears picks: 1) Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State 2) Chris Johnson, RB, East Carolina 3a) Andre Caldwell, WR, Floria 3b) Andre Woodson, QB, Kentucky 4) Athyba Rubin, DT, Iowa State 5) Chad Rinehart, OG, Northern Iowa, 6) Jamar Adams, S, Michigan 7a) Travis Brown, WR, New Mexico State 7b) Ryan Wendel, C, Fresno State 7c) Mark Bradford, WR, Stanford 7d) Andrew Larson, P, California

All indications are the Raiders are set to take McFadden despite having 5 decent to good RBs on the roster: Justin Fargas Michael Bush Lamont Jordan Adimchinobi Echemandu Dominique Rhodes I figure they'll keep Bush and probably Fargas. So, if you're the Bears, do you make a play for Rhodes or Jordan? They shouldn't cost much if they aren't released, and it might be a nice way to fill the RB position.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,4181720.story Mendenhall loves Bears, ready for anything in NFL Draft By Terry Bannon Tribune reporter April 22, 2008, 1:16 AM CDT It was just one of several trips to meet with teams that Rashard Mendenhall has made in preparation for Saturday's NFL draft. He didn't have to pass through O'Hare to visit Halas Hall, and he knows the chances are slim that he'll wind up a Bear. Still ... "I think it went real well, honestly, just being there, it felt like home," he said. "It isn't home, but it felt like that. I have all the respect in the world for coach Lovie Smith. One of the best guys I've ever met…

Bears | Team has many targets in draft Wed, 23 Apr 2008 13:08:41 -0700 The Northwest Herald reports the Chicago Bears have clearly stressed the need for offensive line help in this year's NFL Draft. In addition, the team will also consider selecting a running back, quarterback, wide receiver and a defensive lineman. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bears | Offensive line is key Wed, 23 Apr 2008 13:03:04 -0700 The Northwest Herald reports Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner said everything starts with a good offensive line. "You can't win in this league without being solid and good up fr…

Guess the first 14 picks of the draft, thought it would be fun and the winner can post how awesome he is and how everyone else can bow down. (Just for fun) P.S. you can add trades, however you don't have to say what they're giving up, just throw out the order and the pick. (guessing what they'd give up would make it a little harder, but you can if you want) guess the 2nd 3rd and 4th rd picks for a tie breaker. I'll start: Miami - J. Long if anyone screws this one up let me know and I'll have grouchy hit you with a tack hammer cause you're a moron. St Louis - Last night I said G. Dorsey, but my opinion has changed - C. Long Atlanta - G. Dorsey Oak - Darr…

From profootballtalk.com: BEARS PLANNING FRIDAY VISIT WITH THOMAS Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2008, 8:59 a.m. At a time when most of the smoke signals emanating from Halas Hall suggest that the Chicago Bears will focus on improving the offensive line and/or the running game with the 14th overall pick in the draft, a league source tells us that receivers coach Darryl Drake is heading to Michigan on Friday to meet with, and possibly to work out, receiver Devin Thomas. Of course, there’s a chance that the smokescreen is the team’s eleventh-hour interest in Thomas. If the Bears can cajole the Bills into taking him at No. 11, or dupe someone into jumping…

W/ the draft so close, I wanted to take a fresh look at the OL. Here is my board. 1. Albert - I have him ahead of Clady, but ask me again tomorrow, and it could change. They are that close. While I think Clady has the most potential to start right away at LT, I simply think Albert is going to be a stud somewhere on the OL. IMHO, he has a ceiling of being a Walter Jones at LT, and a floor of Ruben Brown at OG. If we had no need for OG, I might edge Clady, but we need to hit on our 1st pick, and Albert is as close to a sure thing IMHO as any. 2. Clady is next, by a hair. In Clady, you have a prototypical LT prospect who might be able to start at LT as a roo…

It is a little late, but in honor of ITC3, I'll take over running the draft contest this year. Please submit a first round mock draft to me via email (preferably in excel) to Bullsback@gmail.com . Please list from the #1 pick in the round to the last pick in the first round (you don't need to put the team name down as I will solely be looking at where a player is picked, not by whom they are picked). The person who has the most correct picks (regardless of trades, I will just go down the list and if the guy is picked at the number you said you will get one point) wins. I have no idea what the tie-breaker would be, but maybe someone can come up with someth…

From PFT.com HOT WATER FOR BRIGGS? Posted by Mike Florio on April 24, 2008, 3:20 p.m. In June, Bears linebacker Lance Briggs will have to play a different kind of defense in a court of law. According to Michael Sneed of the Chicago Sun-Times, Briggs is required to appear before a judge on June 19 to explain why Briggs left the state without the judge’s permission. Briggs’ travel restrictions are a result of the one-year probation arising from his guilty plea to fleeing the scene of an accident after he crashed his Lamborghini in 2007. Briggs later called police and reported the car to be stolen. In addition to probation, Briggs was ordered to per…

Found this doing my usual rumor check... http://boards.chicagobears.com/forums/thread/979785.aspx Not from pick 14, but to pick 27 with the Chargers. Obviously we would not trade down with them due to the fact the Chargers only have one pick in the first 3 rounds. Any trade would either be our 44th pick and first 3rd rounder; or 44, our second 3rd rounder, and another little something, perhaps a future pick.

No. 14: Bears - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Illinois Rashard Mendenhall may just be the best running back in the draft. (Doug Pensinger / Getty Images) The Monsters of the Midway need to rebuild an aging and ineffective offensive line, so they're disappointed to see both Ryan Clady and Chris Williams off the board. Even though GM Jerry Angelo drafted Cedric Benson at No. 4 overall just three years ago, this running game is in need of a major boost. Mendenhall is a local product who starred at Niles West High School, and his presence will allow offensive coordinator Ron Turner to get back to the two-pronged ground game that was so successful in 2006 with Benson and t…

I admit that I haven't seen him a ton, but I have seen enough to form an opinion. I have gone to Youtube and looked at a few highlights as well. So, what I want to know is this: Is Rashard Mendenhall a speed back or a power back? From nearly everything I've seen, he's not explosively fast. He appears to be more of a power back whose speed was accentuated by playing in a quirky spread offense. If the Bears draft him, isn't he essentially the same type of player as Benson?

I guess word locally is that Chris Williams is the Bears pick. (espnradio1000 radioshow host Dan McNeil said his sources inside halas told him) BUt then i see this http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/NFLDr.../wwhi042308.htm The greatest need of the Texans, at No. 18, is a left tackle, and Vanderbilt’s Chris Williams could be available. The way we hear it, concerns about the variations in the size of Williams’ arms and legs, with one being shorter than the opposite limb, could affect his status. Furthermore, multiple team sources say he has been removed from consideration on their draft boards for medical reasons, which could play into the Texans’ favor. …
