Is it the owner, the front office, JA, the coaches, or the scouts? Who chooses the first round selections? I just got to wondering that, because in a recent fantasy mag they mention the numerous first rounders who have not panned out for the Bears. It's truly disheartening. Columbo, Haynes, Enis, Salaam, Rex, Benson, and to a lesser extent Tank (2nd)...that's a lot of misses in the first round. I wonder what the hit to miss ratio is as compared to other franchises?

So here we go, game two of the early season and our team is 2-0 for prime time (not wins, just appearances). The first game at home in front of a friendly crowd with all our new toys. Seattle is a mess in so many ways . It makes me personally happy to see Pete Carroll wince in agony when his team isn’t doing well. I suspect (and hope) we’ll see a lot more of that next Monday. How will Trubisky do with a weeks worth of game time and more practice/preparation under his belt? Will Nagy manage the game a little differently (smarter) than last week? Bears playing for .500, Vikings playing for absolutely nothing. Hard to see the Bears not winning this one with Minnesota basically resting all their starters. Bears 20-10

Since the combine Solomon Thomas has quietly risen past Allen on many draft boards (Draftek, Bleacherreport, NFLnetwork, and CBS who has had him there for some time. He needs to be squarely in our sights on draft day. Right now he's my preferred pick at #3 if he's still there. We are well into the negotiating period for FA and I haven't found any rumors about Trevathan. I scanned all the usual suspects nfl.com, si.com, cbssports, and Walterfootball and there is nothing out there. That is odd for a player who figures to be the top ILB available in FA, especially considering the media circus surrounding the Superbowl winner's free agents. With today's win, the Bears cannot draft higher than the 9th pick. Now the scary part is there are a ton of teams at 7-8. That means if the Bears beat NO next week, there is a chance they could plummet in the draft. Looking at Strength of Schedule which is the 2nd factor in draft position, the Bears could slide all the way to 17. Now realistically, some of the 7-8 teams will win, so the Bears will probably do no worse than 14 with a win next week. With a loss, the Bears will be guaranteed something in the range of 9-12. Zach Zaidman (sp?) who is the SCORE Bears reporter and WBBM's sideline reporter during the games believes that the Bears will keep on 2 QBs on the roster and try to get Hanie on the practice squad. His thought is the roster spot that is eaten by Williams will be used to keep another offensive lineman and thus the Bears will only be able to keep 2 Qbs on the roster. Peace

The gift that keeps on giving. I thought a 2nd rounder was steep for a WR3, but at the time, not knowing they would be able to get Moore, I understood it. However, now after a good chunk of the season, an entire offseason, and now he lands on the PUP for the start of the real offseason training camp. Not a good trend. With the addition of guys like Moore, Tonyan, and even Scott, and possibly some increased PT for Velus, Claypool is going to be the odd man out. Only so many targets to go around. It seems like the pecking order is Moore, Mooney, Kmet, Tonyan, RB1, Scott, then Velus or Claypool. By the time you get to the 5th player, that is about 5 targets a game.

The only center still on the roster is Ryan Bates. He has arthritis issues in his shoulder. He did stem cell therapy, the question is, did that fix it? If Poles keeps him we will know the answer to that. Bring back Shelton? I would think more for depth than as a starter. I would say one of these 2 will be back at least as a backup. Dalman is the prize and will earn 10-15 Mil. Poles could decide to bring him in instead of the big spend on Trey Smith. Sign Kevin Zeilter and could get 2 players for the same money as Smith. Another option in free agency is Evan Brown from AZ. He played well last year and would be cheaper than Dalman. Then the draft. Lots…

. . . The Bears behind the scenes draft video this year. I’m assuming they do one because they do such a good job and they are really popular. But there’s so much speculation about the Bears getting sniped on their picks, like wanting Kelvin Banks or Treyveon Henderson, or Cam Skattebo. Are we going to be able to use Bright in the videos? Will they cut around it? Was it all fake news and it turns out they got guys they actually targeted? Eagerly waiting for it to drop.

Our first two visits happened. They brought in a RB, Seth McGowan/ UK and a center from Kentucky Jager Burton.. He is the 17th ranked OC on draft buzz. An UDFA type. McGowan is the 9th rated RB on draft buzz. 4.49 speed. He is an explosive type RB with a 43.5 vertical and 131" broad. Overall rank #170. Would be a mid round pick. Pick 129?
