  1. Started by Pixote,

In a response to an email on ChicagoBears.com Mayer came up with an interesting explanation as to why we got a good deal with the trade for Cutler. 1st, he says, and I can not disagree, that if Cutler were to be put into the draft in 2009 he would be the clear cut, by a landslide, #1 selection of the draft as he is a proven probowl quality NFL QB. By using the dradt selection chart: http://www.nfldraftblitz.com/pick_value_chart.htm the first round selection is worth 3000 points. Our first round pick this year is valued at 900 points. Our 3rd round selection is valued at 170 points. That totals 1070 points. Let's assume we really sucked as…

  2. Chicago has tired of Lovie Smith's happy talk Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on July 30, 2010 10:20 AM ET Bears coach Lovie Smith is unfailingly, unflappably, nice. Much like his mentor Tony Dungy, he rarely has a negative public word about his team. Bears scribes that have watched the team deteriorate into mediocrity the last few years have had about enough of the happy talk after another sunny speech from Smith to open training camp. Melissa Isaacson of ESPNChicago wrote Friday that "Tony Robbins doesn't have a thing on Lovie Smith." Smith was asked what lessons he learned from the last three years. He's trying to forget. "Those years you talked ab…

Bears turn around and trade a 2nd round pick for WR Chase Claypool! Bears to get Chase Claypool in trade with Steelers Good move, IMO. Chase has caught 32 passes for 311 yards and a touchdown for the Steelers this season despite having an unstable QB room. He will be a great addition to help Fields. Here is a quote from WindyCityGridiron.com:

I just took a look at some of the receivers stats from the Broncos and Bears from 2008 to 2009. I was surprised at the huge dropoff from Royal (down 58 receptions and over 660 yards from a year ago). Now I know there are still 4 games to play, but that is a huge dropoff. Marshall and Scheffler are both down as well. There is a good chance that Marshall will be the only Bronco with more than 500 yards receiving. Compare that to Hester and Olsen, who both will surpass their 2008 totals (Hester already has). Even Forte is on tap to beat his 2008 totals for receiving. We will also more than likely have 5 receivers (including Forte), break 500 yards receiving. …

I didn't know where to put this so I put it here. The bears met with Jamal Williams that played for Johnson when Swift was there. I haven't seen if they signed him, I've been traveling the last few days.

Been waiting for this thread to popup but now it's time to speak my peace before the Rams game. First, no matter what happens I don't want Matt Nagy to call that play with the little inside touch pass to Trey Burton. This would be a good week to leave that off the play sheet. Next, let's run left and directly at Aaron Donald with Jordan Howard. Make him do what he does not want to do in fighting off a block to tackle a bit RB, and make him do it all game long. Donald is still quick enough if you whiff on the block he'll take down your RB for a loss before you can say uh-oh. I just feel we need to have him focused on the running game as much as possible. …

  9. PFT has a piece, using quotes from Harris, saying Harris could be calling out Urlacher and Briggs. Reading the quotes, I tend to agree, or at least calling out one of them. In another thread, the title is, "Harris showing leadership". Interesting thought. Is Harris really calling out other players, and if he is, is he showing leadership? Before anyone answers, think back a couple years when Farve had some choice comments for Walker, and the way he was handling his negotiations. I seem to recall most every bear fan blasting Farve. Is this really different. I don't know that I have a problem w/ his comments, as they are pretty much dead on. The issue to me is…

  10. Placeholder for Week 1 - SEA (Waldron's offense) beat TEN in Week 16 last season 20-17 in TEN. Geno Smith was 25-36, 69.4%, 227 yds, 2 TD, 0 INT, 2 Sacks, 104.7 QB Rating. 18 receptions by WRs. SEA sacked TEN 6 times. TEN replaced Derrick Henry with Tony Pollard. If the Bears can stop Pollard, who is more of a dual threat than Henry, I think the Bears win handily.

I had the Bears at 1-2, so as long as they can rattle off 4 straight wins (CAR, DET, MIN, TB) and go into the Bye at 5-2, I won't mind. Anything less will be a complete failure.

I recently saw this article and became slightly irritated: "Expert" rankings I just don't see it. I think the "experts" forget the following: 1) The Bears were in the Super Bowl year before last with essentially the same team 2) The Bears had a ton of defensive injuries during the year 3) The Bears had a bad offensive line last year 4) The Bears had Pro Bowlers who were injured on each level of defense (Harris, Url, Brown) 5) The Bears lost the heart of the defense, Brown, on a freak accident 6) The Bears can't rely on Rex Grossman every game, but he sure has blown it up in some games...and Orton definitely has skills 7) The Bears had a ton of …
