Shutting down Fields is absolutely the right thing to do. There is nothing to be gained by him playing this weekend behind that patchwork offensive line. Now the real work begins. None of this past season matters unless they win the offseason. Peace

Since Its Clear The Bears Have A Top 4 Pick , Who You Got?
Connorbear replied to lemonej's topic in Bearstalk
If we are #1 or #2 I would trade back and get more picks. Peace -
Great info - thanks! I believe if he can add just a bit on offense for us he will be a positive asset moving forward. Peace

If Velus ends up just being a really good kick returner, who has maybe 15 to 20 catches a year is that sufficient for a 3rd rounder? I surely don't see that as a bust. Peace

Agreed on Fields. I expect him to put in the effort to improve. Further, I see him really pushing Claypool this offseason. Peace -

The Bears were very competitive in most of their losses this year. The last two weeks have been hard to sit through but we are now really starting to see the effects of a depleted roster with 3rd/4th string players starting. The absolute worst Bears football I can remember was the last year of Trestman (2014) where they gave up 50+ points in 2 straight games. Then Aaron Kromer threw Cutler under the bus and the season went completely to hell and massive change was instituted Bottom line, the nine-game losing streak doesn't bother me in the least. This year was a write off. If we're have the same type of discussion at the end of next season then I will be extremely concerned. Peace -
Work to fix the trenches this offseason. That should priority No. 1. Peace

Point taken. I guess I'm saying there is no difference finishing 3-14 or 5-12 other than draft position (you're not making the playoffs). A better draft position gives you a chance to get a better player or parlay that better pick into other picks. I see the Bears finishing with either 3 or 4 wins giving them a top 6 pick. I'd much rather see that than 5 or 6 wins with a pick between 10 and 15. I would never call for the team to tank. I'm just hoping they play good and lose each game by a few points like they did with several games earlier this year. Peace Peace

This part right here. I want to win a Super Bowl. Winning a couple of meaningless games at the end of this season does nothing to help the team win a Super Bowl. Getting higher draft picks, however, has a real potential to help make that happen. Peace

As of now, winning one more game would get us the 6th pick (unless other teams win as well). The only winnable game I see on the schedule is the Minnesota game if they have nothing to play for and rest their starters. Peace

I was at the game as well. Our seats are in section 149. Agreed with everything you said. I also would note Santos looked bad in practice before the game and at halftime. I knew he was going to miss at least 1 kick in the game. Further, I thought Blackwell played a heck of a game. I think he's a real find for this front office. Peace
-
Agreed. There is no downside to playing him now. In fact, it's best to find out now if he has any value. Peace
-
Agreed and I'm going to the Packers game. I certainly do not want to watch Siemian play but it makes no sense to risk the health of Fields. Peace
-
Spot on, Jason! They just need to keep doing what they are doing and be ready for the offseason. Any wins right now do not help the team moving forward. A top 5 pick (in almost every round) helps the team immensely. Peace
-
Way too early IMHO. I would say we should give him until the end of next season. Peace

Soldier Field was rocking yesterday. Fields was simply fantastic. I can't believe how awful the officiating can be at times but the loss will actually benefit us at the end of the season. It's just great to see Justin break out. His development is the #1 priority this year. Peace
-
Roquan was not coming back here next year unless tagged. The fact he doesn't have an agent makes it extremely difficult to negotiate with. Further, he plays a luxury position that the Bears cannot afford to pay 20 million a year for. I wish him well but am glad he's gone. Peace
-
It was our 2nd rounder but I have no issues with this. They needed to get Fields help and Claypool is an immediate piece you can plug right away. His presence makes all the other receivers better (most importantly Mooney). Peace

I love this trade. Wish we could have got a little more but clearing room in the rotation for Robinson and Gipson to get more reps is huge. The cap space going forward is an extra bonus. Peace

All of this. Poles inherited a complete dumpster fire. I had absolutely no expectations for this year. As a STH I am just glad I was able to witness a win in person (Houston). I don't expect to see another one (maybe Detroit). My only concern for this year was answering the Fields question - is he the guy going forward? At this point, I think we may have to push that to next season. Peace

Take the best 3-tech DT on the board. Peace

Chicago is not going to get a 2nd team - no way, no how. Peace

I'm never really had an issue with Ted other than he was in a job that he wasn't qualified for. That's not on him, however. The McCaskey's promoted him. They own all the issues we've had these past 20+ years. Peace
