Yes I believe so. With Jaylon, Za'Darius and Preston, all of which are defensive players. Similar to when they used to have two Rodgers on offense; Aaron and TE Richard. I'm sure the equipment manager / uniform person appreciates it when they do that. Along the lines of opportunity missed; I had seen some discussion about trying to bring Jaylon to Chicago (at the expense of Danny T) -which personally I was not a fan of. But also the Panthers were able to wrest away CB Richard Gilmore from NE for relatively low cost and a sixth round pick(?) The same round pick the Bears gave up recently to get Jakeem Grant. Obviously there's got to be more to it than that I'm sure,; like cost, Gimore's injury etc.

To begin I had no idea what DVOA means. Even after I looked up the definition of the acronym I'm still not sure its all that clear to me but... The simple answer to it all is the scheme and who has been coaching him, which until last week was all on Nagy. I'd be curious to see how Trubisky fared under Nagy compared to how he might do if he ever has to play some significant time in Buffalo. Like you said Fields' stats were skewed by the relatively low passing yardage, no TDs and two INTs (and two fumbles that he fortunately recovered). But again, it was the situation he was put into with Nagy as the play-caller. With Lazor making the calls we saw little glimpses of how good Fields really can be. And that will improve with time and the right guy making the calls.

Gotta love the guy.

In related news GB looks to be adding recent Pro Bowler and former Cowboy LB Jaylon Smith to their roster. Their defense is dinged up with Z’Darius Smith on IR (back) and Safety Will Redmond also on IR (toe).

Meanwhile…anything new on Cohen?

Meh. If the team relies too much on Justin throwing long and running short he and the offense will become one dimensional really fast. Especially when playing good defenses. I wouldn’t necessarily consider Detroit a “good defense”. As you say, you have a slew of decent TEs on the roster. Use them in blocking, traditional and hybrid uses/formations.

On the one hand he’s yet another “small fast receiver” that potentially “could blow the top off offenses” but he adds to the return game too…or so we hope. I’d like for us to get a large body receiver in the mix (ala DK Metcalf, AJ Brown or Megatron). Or at the very least use the current TEs (all of them).

I had high hopes for him. Saw the same thing then the near muff during the Cleveland game. During the Detroit game and while watching Webster once again fail to make a return, my wife asked if there was any way to bring back Hester. She’s a good fan. Any word on what actually happened to Montys knee? I had heard hyperextention with no structural damage. Which if true is amazing.

Here’s a pretty good breakdown of how they’ve been using the TEs. With at least Kmet. Appears he’s been helping Peters as an extra OLT.

I think this is realistic enough. I suspect we won’t have Montgomery for a few weeks but from what I saw, Williams is a capable back and I gotta believe Herbert can get some tough yards too. I think there was one or two times I saw them try to get the ball to a TE not named Jimmy. He’s a definite red zone threat (proved it last year) and between he and Kmet should be able to help loosen things up in the short/mid range. We don’t need Fields to throw 20+ yard bombs every game. Got to see the Patriots/Bucs last night and Jones essentially was running the same plays Brady was. Lots of short yardage gains over the middle to the TEs and quick outs to the WRs with the occasional long throw. The game stayed close throughout with field goals ending up being the deciding factor. There’s no doubt Fields is more talented than Jones and can do all he’s doing. And by the way, I think there’s a good possibility the Bears could beat the Bucs on the road in a few weeks. As long as they play smart and control the ball.

And I blame Desai for not recognizing who is good at the positions they play. As much a fan I am of Vildor I cringe when I see him one on one knowing the Safeties are supposed to cover if he’s not able. Yeah Shelly looked better but all these guys are gonna get ate up against the likes of Carr, Rodgers and Brady in the next three weeks if they don’t start improving and quick.
