It's been said on the radio 670 the Score that the Bears are not pursuing any big name free agents. This thought angers me b/c IMO we are still close to being a playoff/superbowl contender team. So remembering the Bears recent history with Angelo saying we will be active in FA or not, he is usually honest about which way there going. With that said my conclusion is: 1. We lose Briggs and Berrian in FA without signing significant FA contracts we gain possibly two 3rd round compensation picks in 2008. 2. Our draft board is: RD1=Brohm QB/Mendenhall RB both positions need a new franchise player - I look for the Bears to trade up to the lower 1st round…

Don't be surprised if the Bears do end up making a play for Turner and maybe even Flozel Adams. I am certain that Berrian is a gonner, but I wouldn't mind if we picked up a veteran in FA and then maybe used our 2nd round pick on a wide receiver. It wouldn't shcok me to see someone like Brandon Lyod come to Chicago given his teis to Turner and then say the Bears pick up someone like Manningham in the second round.

We are rebuilding folks. Ive never seen out WR corps as depleted as they are right now- and they are most likely going to get worse when Berrian skips town. We have 1 unproven injury prone WR in Bradley and Hester who even if he becomes great diminishes our Speacial teams which has saved us in the past. Then our Oline blows even more now then at end of season we lost 2 starters and word is we are not going after any Marquee names in that field. No Fanaca. Our D line has been injured. T. He is a great tackler but doesn't make impact plays. He has 5.5 sacks and 6 ints in 5 yrs. Url has 37.5 sacks and 15 ints in 8 yrs. He has overvalued himself and may be waiting by the phone for a while. Just watching the NFL network and the analysts agreed his best move would be to stay with the Bears. Peace

OLB Calvin Pace just signed w/ NYJ. 6yr/$42m w/ a $20m SB. Like Adalius Thomas, Pace was seen as an OLB in a 3-4 that can generate a pass rush, as well as play OLB. I realize Briggs could not have fit, but he can not be happy about this. Once again, I use this as evidence Harris better not over-play his hand. IMHO, a big reason the market was not there for Briggs is because he plays in a system that caters to his position, thus putting into question his ability to play in any system. This is the draft following the 2005-2006 season. To set the scene, the Bears had just finished with the best defense in the NFL with only 12.6 points allowed per game. They were also 2nd best in total yards allowed per game and 11th in rush and 5th in passing yards allowed. The Bears had the 2nd most int's of any team that year. They were tied for most Defensive TD's and in the top 10 in sacks. The offense wasn't quite as productive. The Bears were 27th on points per game (16.3) and 29th in yards per game. I admit that I haven't seen him a ton, but I have seen enough to form an opinion. I have gone to Youtube and looked at a few highlights as well. So, what I want to know is this: Is Rashard Mendenhall a speed back or a power back? From nearly everything I've seen, he's not explosively fast. He appears to be more of a power back whose speed was accentuated by playing in a quirky spread offense. If the Bears draft him, isn't he essentially the same type of player as Benson?

The staff & JA has indicated they want Tait to move back to RT & they want Chris Williams to stick with his natural position, LT. That's great. (Assuming Williams doesn't suck. With rookies, you never can tell). They've also indicated they like St. Clair as the starting LG. That's great also. He looked solid there. What will keep me awake at night is this: Who is our back-up LT??? The easy answer is Tait, but then that would require moving St. Clair back to RT, and moving Metcalf/Beekman or some other crappy player in LG. That's WAY too many moves. Basically we need a solid LT who can complete with Williams or fill in the back-up role.
