  1. Looked like they were just putting their TE on McClellan and letting the line worry about whatever back up DT and LB they faced
  2. The Bears had only scored 10 points in the other 45 and a half minutes of the game. The offense had his mishaps to. 1st and 5, and Cutler switches from a run play to a pass. Only problem is, only he knew about it. They were reading blitzes horrible. The sacks were basically overloading the left side and their wasn't an audible to pick up the blitz. The Bears had three 3 and outs in the first half and a fumble. Points were let up then. The second half, the Bears only let up 6 points.
  3. Letting up 23 points against the Saints isn't that bad. The Bears scored 10 points in the first 3 quarters. That is bad.
  4. Every phrase that came out of Love Smith's mouth.
  5. I think there is some merit in what the players think. They have been pretty stout against the run. Despite today's abysmal preformance, the Bears are still 13th against the run after holding Peterson to only 3.8 yards per carry, 3.0 to Cincy and 3.8 to the Steelers. Where the bears have really struggled is in the passing game. They have not only averaged the sixth worst per attempt, but also have let up the the second most passing plays for over 20 yards. I'm sure a lot of this can be attributed to the defense having the 3rd worst sack total with six in 4 games. The Bears have been opportunistic a league leading 14 take aways. It's helped mask the deficiencies in the secondary and the defensive line. Yes, Cutler had a horrible game and Bush may be a good player, but I wouldn't sour on the Bears linebackers and run D just yet. It's been the one of the few things the Bears D has done well up to this point.
  6. Yea, last week they were talking about it. They said that since the players were so used to their system, he learned the terminology they were used to instead of implementing his own. He was getting praised for it at the time.
  7. Michael C. Wright @mikecwright A few Chi players think former DL Izzy Idonije tipped off Lions to their stunts. Said Bush burned them every time they did "power" stunt. 5:52 PM - 29 Sep 2013
  8. http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...55772--nfl.html Chicago Bears players say former teammate Israel Idonije was feeding Detroit Lions their defensive calls Eric Edholm 5 hours ago Shutdown Corner View gallery . (USA Today Sports Imaghes) Stealing signs, as Spygate taught us, is not just a baseball thing. And it's common that when a team faces one of its former longtime players, it will change up its terminology slightly just so that player's new team can't gain an advantage. Well, the Chicago Bears seem to think that defensive end Israel Idonije, now with the Detroit Lions, tipped his new team off about what defensive schemes the Bears were running. [] Truth. The Bears decided to keep Lovie Smith's old system intact despite a new coordinator in Mel Tucker, and they allowed Idonije walk to Detroit without too much of a fight. Not only was Idonije a very smart player — clearly — but he also was very popular in the Bears' locker room. That is, until he may or may not have tipped off his new team. His new first-place team, that is. Reggie Bush was a huge difference maker Sunday, and it's interesting to think if Sunday's intelligence had any bearing on the Lions' 40-32 victory. It certainly couldn't have hurt, as this clip demonstrates shows just how good Bush was.
  9. I really didn't like the trade when it happened. I think Orton would thrive in this offense, but that is old news. McCown sucks, I'd never want to see him start. Jay just needs to get his head on straight, or they need to be looking elsewhere when his contract is up. The team will be in a transition after this year due to all of the contracts that are up anyway. I'm still looking for him to prove me wrong tho. Marshall is one of the top WR's in the league and I'm not so sure how happy he would be if Cutler was gone.
  10. He was a second year player btw, and I'm not saying Freeman is Tom Brady. I could careless about Freeman. Brady is just the first person that comes to mind when someone mentions a back up qb winning a super bowl.
  11. 3 games, 3 sacks allowed, 3 defensive tds, 3 wins
  12. It took half the Steeler's D to bring down Bennett there, the 5th guy got him.
  13. This could be a big game at the end of the season. The Bears are now up on common opponents if it comes to a tie breaker with the Packers.
  14. I'm trying to be positive on this season. To comment on that, I would have to comment on negative aspects to put it in perspective. I'll just say, I'm happy to see the Bears starting at 2-0. They have showed major improvement in a lot of aspects of the game. The places they have regressed, there is potential for improvement due to health and getting into a groove with the system. The constants on the team remain constant. I'm really happy with the line and coaching. I'm going to try to avoid the subjects of Cutler and the Urlacher's which I could go pretty negative and start an unneeded heated debate ala the one that went on over a now Vikings offensive lineman that I will not name. It's just a time to be happy to be a Bears fan now.

    TRich Trade

The Bears kind of did this with Olsen. Obviously, not as high of a profile trade, but essentially a 1st round tight end was traded for a 3rd round pick. The Bears were left with nothing of quality to back him up. Cedrick Bensen being cut after only a few years could arguably be put on this list or even Carimi being cut after 2 season. I could see the argument of Indy getting a steal. They get a RB that was the number 3 pick over all 2 drafts ago to fill a gaping need, for what will likely be a draft pick in the 20s. The Browns on the other hand, have seen what Richardson has to offer. The regime in charge there now are not the same ones that drafted him. The value of running backs is rather low in the league in general and he hasn't exactly been an Adrian Peterson freak just yet. Next year is going to be a solid draft for QBs, and they need one to build around. The short lifespan of RBs isn't exactly the position you want to build around in the NFL. I think in the long run both teams were benefit. The only reason I would be upset as a Browns fan would be because they are giving up on the season obviously in week 2. Let's be honest tho, their season was over before it started. As bad as it sounds, this should also make their first round pick even better, so there is value in that too.
  16. I'm reading it quite a bit different. The receiving team has the option to pick up the ball and make a play after "first touching" has occurred. I eliminated the sentence you had in bold for a second. I think that is important in the context that I am reading this, and there for my opinion on the subject. I'm reading it as if the receiving team has the option to pick up the ball and try to advance it. An example would be, a first touching violation has occured, the receiving team runs backwards and loses 4 yards. The receiving team can still elect to have the ball placed at the spot of the violation. As the sentence is specifically talking about ball placement, I think this and the following sentence Are specifically referring to the placement of the ball and the severity of the violation. If a penalty occurs before the violation, the violation does not hold equal value. The kicking team therefore can elect to take the penalty or let the ball be placed at the spot of the violation. IE, roughing the kicker or offsides are not offsetting fouls with the first touching violation. Once the first touching violation occurs, it becomes a "free play" like when the offense catches the defense off sides. The only difference in this instance is that penalties that occur will be accessed instead of offsetting with the violation. Atleast that is how I am reading it. We should take it to the supreme court of the NFL and argue it lol.
  17. Well, we did see Lovie call the plays for D himself one year. That didn't work so well. I'm not going to try to start a debate trashing Lovie. I just think he is more of a product of a GM that focused primarily on D. They inherited Urlacher, drafted Tillman and Briggs early, and so on. It's hard to not have a successful D with the talent level. Personally, I don't think he is a good coach. However, I can completely understand people thinking he was great with the success the D and team had in his era. Anyways, back to why I really wanted to reply. The very first hire that Trestman made was Kromer as his OC. I was on cloud 9 that day. It wasn't just my excitement for Trestman being named head coach, the addition of Kromer seemed like an evil genius move. The Bears, who have consistently brought to the table one of the worst lines in the league, now had Kromer that produced a probowler at each position on his offensive line with the Saints. The brilliance of stealing arguably the best OL coach in the NFL for just a better title and pay is amazing. The results are being shown on the field.
  18. So the last two times the Bears have started 2-0, they resulted in an NFC championship game and a Super Bowl Appearance. Big things this year.

    2-0

    2 games 1 sack allowed
  20. Can't keep Marc Trestman down.
  21. *Looks in Trestbook*........Swagger.
  22. Look at the teams, talent, and offenses those teams had. That's impressive.
  23. I'm glad you mentioned the video. I'm so used to skipping past and just reading articles. I was really surprised something so well written was on yahoo. Trestman was the coach I wanted to see hired. The more I read and see about him, the more I like the guy. I've tried to be unbiased and wait to see what happens on the field, but the guy is making it hard to. He seems like a great guy and coach.
  24. It really seems like a double edged sword to me. When it works, it could wear out a D. It seems like it would wear out their D when it doesn't tho.
