  1. http://bearingthenews.com/?p=1367 Trend Towards Interior Linemen May Characterize Draft by Tom Shannon I’ve long held that offensive guard is becoming a more important position in the National Football League than in years past. Bear fans need only look at their own division for one of the best example of why this is. The Minnesota Vikings spent what was at the time a fortune for a guard on Steve Hutchinson in 2006. Ever since we have watched Hutchinson serve as the key piece of what was up to last year an excellent to good offensive line. Dan Pompei writing for the National Football Post, explains why interior offensive linemen and defensive tackles h…

To quote 'Escape from New York' - "I thought you were dead". Hell no. Might as well bring back Crystal Chandelier. Let him stay retired. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...mully24.article Peace

It was interesting to hear his post game comments. What I noticed mostly was he seems to have very little ego. He basically said "We made better play calls in the second half on O but even then it was up to Cutler to use his legs twice to get the job done." It's refreshing to hear something like that. I recall previous regimes falling over themselves to claim credit for plays that went well. In the long run it'll be interesting to see how well his personality fits into this world of huge dollars and huge egos called the NFL. His whole "I just asked them to be good teammates" bit seemed a little naive. But with that said, hell, sometimes simple truths are the be…

  5. Started by jason,

I love Trestman. Last night is what I've wanted to see for years. Get up on a team with an offensive scheme? KEEP RUNNING THAT SCHEME! Step on their throat! Do not let them breathe! That's exactly what the offense did last night under Trestman. He did not change, get conservative, let off the gas. He said, "Let's run our offense and try to score." I loved every second of it. We all know Lovie would have let off the gas when the Bears got about 28. A two touchdown lead may as well be 100 points to Lovie Smith. That would have guaranteed a bunch of three-and-out drives because of conservative play-calling, followed by an elastic defense more worried about ea…

Here is a pretty good video of the 2002 Oakland Raiders Highlights: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HUwHig1kvAY They had a 60/40 Pass/Run Ratio. Gannon was sacked 36 times, and had 10x 300-yd passing games. They had 13-6 record including the playoffs with all their losses coming when they scored 21 pts or less and all their wins coming when they scored 24 or more. I found that sort of interesting. 1st in First Downs and Passing 1st Downs, 10th in Rushing 1st Downs 2nd in 3rd Down Conversions: 45.3% +12 Turnover Ratio (T-5th) Here are the receiving numbers broken down in terms of receptions: WR -54% RB - 31% TE - 15% #1 WR - 92-1,211…

  7. He didn't directly say it, but reading between the lines, it would appear that the QB was calling an awful lot of pass plays vs. rushes. I still then say, who was not calling the deep balls in the first 5 games cause that certainly wouldn't appear to be Jay's style. I wonder when we see Trestman get more involved in the play calling. Remember, last year he called the plays and this year I believe it is Kromer. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/30556527-41...ml#.VEaGk_nF92I

Guys, I think it's noteworthy that it seems like nobody "hates" Trestman. I think we're unified in believing it was time for him to go but there aren't any of the usual type of posts regarding his departure. I remember how much I hated Wanny at the end of his term and there were certainly Lovie haters when his time came. I guess it's mostly because we feel like he was a good guy who was in over his head and the venom belongs elsewhere, with those that put him in the role in the first place. Let's hope we don't have to fire our next coach for a LONG LONG time.

Going into the locker room (paraphrasing): "We're not a good team right now. We played 30 minutes of horrible football. The score is what it is." He sounded like he might cry. He knows he should be fired. Peace

I apologize in advance if this topic has been thoroughly dissected, but has anyone read Trestman's book? Les Carpenter's Yahoo article has me wanting to get some more insight into our new chief.

  19. Started by BearFan2000,

I happened to be looking for where I could pick up a copy of Trestman's book, seems it's only sold at Amazon.com but when I go to the item page the kindle version (which I don't have a kindle) is 14.95, but the paperback version list two used from 172.20? Why is it 15 bucks as a digital book, and 172 bucks paperback? This does't seem right, does anyone know where to pick up a copy that's more realistically priced?

  20. Started by bowlingtwig,

Trestmen talked today and said he has spoken with hester but only in a "get to know" type talk. He also said he spoke with Url for 30-40 mins and Url mentioned that he wants to return. Him and tucker also confirmed that we will stick with 4-3 base defens. Good move IMO
