Browns have difficult decision to make with breakout QB star Anderson I know he has limited experience/success. He did have an excellent 2007. There is squat out there for FA QBs If Rex, Kyle, & Brian can not step forward (time will tell) we need someone to push the bubble. Do you want to rely on a rookie QB, especially if we wait to later rds to draft one while we attend to other positions first (OL, RB, S....)? What would it take to get him????
-
I would not rule out 4 RBs next year, especially if we only carry 1 FB on the roster as has been the case lately.
-
Any guesses as to where he will go in the draft? Top 10? 10-20? 20-30? 2nd rd?

According to the agent for Smith, the Bears are not in the picture..... Latest article: Agent doesn't see Bears in mix for CFL star

Babich - Jury is out....... I know every team has to fight through injuries. However, when comparing 2006 to 2007 defensively, we have to remember how comparatively healthy we were on D in 2006 and how outrageous the number of injuries were on D in 2007. I want to see this team return healthy and then see how they play under Babich. Then we can start comparing his D against the Ds Rivera coached for the Bears. Turner - Jury is out...... The old chicken & the egg question. I really think Turner was handcuffed with an OL that all of a sudden began showing their age after playing at a very high level for years. This caused our running game to suffer because it seemed half the time our RB was making 1st contact with the opposing D on our side of the ball. This in turn hurt our play action, the protection of the QB, and the passing game in total. I believe the major regression of our O this year was do to the OL and that caused the domino effect mentioned above. Now, if you get an up graded OL that opens holes for our RBs & protects the QB and gives him time to find an open receiver, we will, IMO, be far improved. At that point we will see how Turner does when he has more options to incorporate in the game plan and play calling.

If we bring him back, I hope it is CHEAP!! I do not mind giving him a shot as long as we get a legitimate QB to contend with him and Orton for the #1 spot and we do not get suckered into a big contract for a QB on the bubble.

Jax is kicking Big Bens Butt!! Jacksonville is going to be tough to beat, they are a dangerous team right now!
-
Thanks flea. Hope we bring him in and take a look at him!
-
I agree, I was very disappointed we did not see him get some oportunities, especially the last few weeks when we were out of the running for the playoffs. I loved what I saw in preseason, then he went into the closet and never came out.
-
flea, you said you have seen him play. Is he a speed back, power back, or does he have a good combo of speed & power? Is he a good receiver out of the backfield? Good blocker? Any type of scouting report you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Sorry, I did not get home until around 7:30 PM Central so DBDB took care of it before I even got your email. Thanks again for the hard work!!

Thanks LT2_3, we appreciate the hard work you put in following the Bears' contract/cap situation. It makes it a lot easier for us "wannabe Gms" to speculate on our moves, LOL.

Let me know how you like Football's Future site. I like the reviews, the mock seemed solid (had us taking Clady at 14th), had current NFL news, and FA prospects. Seemed to me like one of the better sites I have visited.
-
BearSox likes nfldraftcountdown.com I personally like FootballsFuture.com Not sure which link you were asking for.
-
Not sure, but any site who has us taking QB Woodson (12th ?) in the first with OLT Clady still on the board loses a little "flavor" for me. Looks like a good site, but never did like seeing all the boards (and there are many) showing us taking Woodson. I would not like that selection at all for us in the 1st.
-
Then in that case, I's rather stay away from RB in FA, concentrate on OL in FA instead and if possible Hamlin, and get a RB prospect in the Draft. I do not see Chris Brown or Musa Smith making us better (performance and injury problems).
-
Agreed, that is why I said Clevelands offense is definately prolific and if we had an O like theirs, what would teams do with Hester? My guess is they would have to gamble and kick to him because they could not allow us to start from our 40 every series.
-
I like Fargas a lot for the Bears. He is an excellent RB and still quite young. I like J Lewis (was wanting the Bears to draft him when he first came out) but is no longer young and has had extensive injuries over the years. I do not see him coming to the Bears. I also like J Jones from Dallas, if Dallas decides to let him go. So I would go with Fargas, J Jones, or Turner, whichever we could get at the most reasonable cost. I think either of the 3 would be an excellent addition to our team.

Football's Future (a good draft website) has Baker as the number 2 OT prospect and high on their overall board. I am not speaking first hand here as I have already admitted not having time to watch the college scene this year, but this is what they have to say about Baker:

We have to bring in competition for Benson. Obviously if he costs too much Turner is a no go. However, the prospect of starting Berrian (if resigned) with his speed along with the Windy City Flyer at WR and Michael "the Burner" Turner at RB is very intriguing, YES???? Talk about speed on the O, OUCH!!!!

Cribbs is good, Hester is better. How many teams game plan against Cribbs Like they do Hester? I doubt many if any. What would a high powered ofense like NEP or IND do with a "Hester" in their lineup? Could you imagine those 2 offenses with the field position a player like Hester would give them? OUCH!!
-
Logic would say we get that 1.73 MIL added back into our cap figure. I think you are right. I do not know if you ever saw the cap breakdown article LT2_3 produced and allowed me to post on the front page of Bearstalk.com but it was outstanding material, giving each players contract status and what it would cost (or our gain) if the player were cut from our roster. Best I had ever seen. I am hoping he will be able to come up with a current article of similar note for us here at TalkBears.com.

Rusty needs to sit down with him and give him instructions to be followed to the letter or he does not remain the starter. The RB coach has to sit down with him and get into his head and let him know exactly what he needs to do to remain the number 1 RB for this team. Lovie needs to sit down with him and let him know he completely backs the RB coach and Rusty. The line has to be drawn. Benson has all the ability in the world to be a top 5 RB in the NFL. Anyone who watched this guy at Texas knows he has the tools. Unfortunately, it takes more than just tools. It takes commitment and attitude. He is currently a head case. He needs to get off his ass and use the abilities he showed in college. If he does not, he will be a lost cause.

Peter King obviously missed the boat on that selection (Cribbs over Hester). Have no idea where he is coming from there. I would love to hear his reasoning.
