I would move down, not up. I dont think one player in this draft can transform the team into a instant contender unless Trubisky suddenly quits football. I think we will have our choice of 5 or 6 players we like which would enable us to move down to gain a 2nd or 3rd.

We can scratch TE off the list, Trey Burton filled that role.

Since a few things have changed, so have my thoughts. 1. OLB still #1 need 2. G/C became a need after Sitton released. Maybe Kush or Morgan can step in, but unknown if they would upgrade. #2B need 3. ILB-Freeman and Jones are gone, depth for sure needed and possibly upgrade over Kwit. #2A need 4 . WR-white is on final year and Meredith has yet to sign. Gabriel is not a typical every down WR and may not hold up. I am being skeptical, not optimistic here. Would like a kid with real potential. #3 need 5. OT- Massie has one year remaining. Time to draft a replacement and give a year to bulk up. #3 need 6. CB- future competition and depth. #4 7. Wildcard=RB- Pace is finding a niche with drafting RBs. Wouldn't surprise me if he takes a flier on another. *

We should start having a couple debates, like setting up rounds 1 and 2. Round 1 - Quentin Nelson G, Tremaine Edmunds LB, and Roquan Smith ILB, Minikah Fitzpatrick DB, Marcus Davenport OLB These are a few popular names that seem to slot around pick 8. There is no guarantee they will be there, but if we were to build a champion, who do we start with? (Feel free to add more) Round 2 - Lorenzo Carter OLB, Arden Key OLB, Kohlton Miller OT, Isiah Wynn G.

I would make a few changes myself. Since we took Edmunds and Carter, I would back off on double dipping on both LB positions. If Aruna slips into the 5th or after, then we can take a shot. I would prefer a WR in the 3rd or 4th and maybe even double dip here since Meredith and White may not be here long term.

The odds of Nelson even being available at 8 are slim. He is literally the best player in the class. Teams may see him as a LT too, since ND played him at G doesn't mean he is not capable. It is hard to be excited about Nelson, but I want the highest level of protection for Trubisky. If he is gone, than I am all aboard the Tremaine Edmunds train.
-
It would be nice, but he did just extend O'Donnell. It was only a one year deal so it shouldn't be awful to cut.
-
I think you will see growing pains with any player selected, except for Nelson. We always want things now, but have to think long term also.
-
How about getting the after FA draft everyone agrees with again. We now have a good idea the direction we could go.
-
I am not sold on CB in the 1st either, but lot of people are high on Ward. He is going to be a playmaker. If Fangio and Pace think he can get this D over the top I would be good with him. Like Crosby also, I've been high on him for a couple years now. If I am Pace, I would consider a taller WR like Lazzard for those times when we might need to throw the ball up and have someone who can get up and make a play.
-
I watched a quick 2-3 minute video but not elaborately. I will have to look closer. I still read many mocks saying he would fit nicely on the bears as OLB, so it would be interesting to see what Fangio sees.

Awesome. I must have missed it, but works beautifully. The whole forum is going to make my life better, I can read everything without turning my phone to the side.
-
Yes, pretty much. If we can trade down 2-3 spots and still get Edmunds while gaining a 3rd, I think Pace can get the 3 or 4 players needed.
-
Not sure if it can be done, but it would be handy if at the bottom of a topics page a button be added to get the main bearstalk page again to jump into another topic. Otherwise you have to scroll back to the top. If it is too much, disregard, I know how small things can blow up a whole thing. I appreciate this board and think you have done an amazing job. Thank you!

I've never heard he had slow feet either since he is regarded as a mauler. He is extremely knowledgeable and gets to 2nd and 3rd blocks(levels). If anyone knows, it will be our o line coach.
-
I would be fine with Edmunds in the middle as long as they can get Lorenzo Carter in the 2nd. I want to see 85 Bear pressure on QBs again and feel we are close just need another athlete opposite of Floyd. Not sure how much time we have with a dominant Hicks and Goldman, but the window is open.

Bears Sign Cooper and Scales - OL & D Front draft focus
ASHKUM BEAR replied to BearFan PHX's topic in Bearstalk
Hard to say, I've been predicting an OT for 10 years it seems. I think they take OLB with the 1st or 2nd and either Oline or another D bluechipper with the other. I can see a Edmunds/Smith 1st if Nelson is gone and Carter OLB 2nd. That would add a lot of athleticism to the front 7. WR and DB with the 4ths. -
It will be a miracle if 4 QBs go before we select, but keeping my fingers crossed. I always liked R Smith and told Rich Campbell there is no way Smith is a top 10 player because of his position. I would hate to eat crow, but he most likely go to Oak or SF if we don't take him. Edmunds intrigues me the most because I can see him gaining good weight and grows into a freak on the edge.
-
Sounds good. I thought I would have joined or liked it when it came out, but nothing on my fb,but one from NBC.
-
Is talkbears still on Facebook? I just tried the line and it was no longer good.
-
Wonder is more athletic means Grasu has a shot at C and Whitehair moves to G? If Nelson is available, they might envision him at OT too. Draft weekend will be interesting as usual.
-
I still have high hopes that DeAndre Hall will either push for a CB or S position. He is one I wish they figured out a position for him his rookie year and let him master it.
-
Hopefully Pace and Fangio are doing there homework. The Bears need a defensive game changer and the closer we get to the draft the further I am starting to feel. If Nelson is gone, I think we have to draft a playmaker on D. I am leaning ON Edmunds myself, but really don't want a ILB. If they think Edmunds can grow into an Aldon Smith, then go for him. If they don't think he will get the strength to play outside, but will still be a great ILB, then I may switch to Davenport. Our chances of trading down don't look good, so we will be realistically be choosing one of these: Nelson G Edmunds LB Davenport DE/OLB Fitzpatrick DB Ward CB Smith LB James S

Agree, he was an early on top of the draft guy. He played hurt so production was down, but think he could be a top pick based off previous performance. He tested well too, so watch him creep up mocks.
