Per the rumor mill at ESPN.com John Clayton is reporting that the Bears amongst other teams may have interest in Julius Jones. Jones, widely considered the top running back left on the free-agent market, has visited Detroit, Tennessee and Seattle. He's also considering trips to CHICAGO and Philadelphia, according to Clayton. With starting running back Kevin Jones coming off knee surgery, the Lions are looking for insurance at the position. The Seahawks might be looking to phase out Shaun Alexander and feature a running back duo of Jones and T.J. Duckett, who was signed recently. In four seasons with Dallas, Jones rushed for 3,484 yards on 885 carries.

I've neve put to much faith in these things, but damn they seemed to hit the nail on the head. Particularly when they say, "Has had some off-the-field issues. Does he love playing the game of football? Will he work hard enough at it in the NFL?" and also, "there are some lingering concerns about his character, attitude and speed that make him a potential disappointment at the next level." Wow. I hope Angelo starts reading these things. Here's the full pre-draft evaluation from espn.com: Strengths: Is at his best running between the tackles. Has decent quickness and good initial burst. Has patience and vision. Hits the hole hard when he sees it open up. Will …

He has us taking Chris Williams and he has Mendenhall going at #15. I'd love it if we signed a guy like Max Starks, let St. Clair play left guard, and went after Mendenhall. It's not likely going to happen though. This was posted yesterday on ESPN INsider Miami remains mum on No. 1 overall pick By Mel Kiper Jr. ESPN.com (Archive) Updated: March 4, 2008 Comment Email Print A few notes from my second first-round projection for April's NFL draft: • The most notable change between my initial first-round projection and this one is that I have Virginia defensive end Chris Long going No. 1 overall to the Miami Dolphins. This is based on di…

Booker agreed to terms with the Bears damn near immediately after Jabar Gaffney agreed to terms with the Patriots. In other words, Booker was either hoping to land with NE, or he was hoping to use both teams against one another as leverage. The same thing happened with Demorrio Williams on Saturday. He was scheduled to meet with the Bears on Tuesday. The Bears resign Briggs, and within an hour he's a Chief. I find this interesting as hell for a lot of different reasons: 1. Those of us who follow the NFL "rumor-mill" constantly don't know nearly as much as we'd like to. The Chicago papers had reported the Bears seemed to have no interest in Booker. I h…

Ryan Clady ran a 5.18 forty and posted a 31" vertical at the Boise State Pro Day. Clady tweaked his pectorals on the bench press at the Combine and was unable to do the rest of his drills. A terrific athlete, Clady projects as a starting left tackle at the next level. Zone-blocking teams will be intrigued. Source: draftheadquarters.com

League insiders tell the NY Daily News that "it's looking more and more like" the Jets will take Darren McFadden with the No. 6 overall pick. He'd have to be there, but the smart money is on McFadden not being a top-five pick because of off-field concerns. The Jets are expected to use this draft to upgrade their overall team speed. Free agent LB Brendon Ayanbadejo has narrowed his possible destinations to the Jets and Ravens. He'd been offered four-year deals by both clubs. He'll sign Thursday. He'd have a slightly better chance of playing defense in New York as an inside linebacker, though it'd only be as a reserve. Brett Favre will address the media on…

Slim pickings now. With Walker and Gafney gone, here is what is left: Bryan Johnson (looks like Buffalo or Washington) Reche Caldwell Drew Carter DJ Hackett Marty Booker Robert Ferguson (if we are desperate) Brandon Lloyd (would need to be a minimum contract - not sure what he brings to us) I wonder how much longer JA is going to wait to jump in. We cannot go into the draft with the 5 receivers we have now. Peace

Not exactly shocking news. We must like Matt Toeaina and Babitunde Oshinowo. Here's the PFT story: BEARS OPT NOT TO MATCH KENNEDY OFFER On the same day that word broke that the Jags signed defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy to an offer sheet, the Bears opted not to match it. According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, the Bears made their decision on Tuesday, and Kennedy is now a Jaguar. The one-time first-round pick will get a chance to rejuvenate his disappointing career by working his way into the tackle rotation with the Jags, who need help now that Marcus Stroud has been traded to the Bills.
