With the projected cap in 2022, it would be wise to extend ARob and Roquan now. Locked them both up long term, ARob is still only 27 and it is better to extend Roquan before he is an All-Pro selection. Thoughts?

After the major offseason moves, the main roster snap counts come down to the following: 2020 - Trubisky, Fuller, Leno, Massie, RRH, and Patterson 2021- Fields, Trufant, Jenkins, Daniels, Goldman, and Cohen/Williams Fields replaces Trubisky, huge upgrade regardless if Fields starts immediately or not. Jenkins and Daniels on the O-Line vs Leno and Massie is an upgrade in my eyes. Goldman back for RRH is an upgrade, and the backfield touches of Patterson to Cohen/Williams as an RB is an upgrade. The two clear downgrades we have are Fuller at CB for Trufant/Roberson/Graham/Burns and Patterson as KR to Herbert, Newsome. However, of the 22 O/D starters, onl…

After watching some Monty highlights and offseason work, I really like where our RB room is at. Monty is a true RB1 and then you have Damien Williams as a very solid RB2, Tarik Cohen back, and some fresh speed with Khalil Herbert. I was looking around the league, and it was hard for me to find a comparable group. Most die off after 2-3 RBs. Here are the 5 best groups (not individuals): LV has Jacobs, Drake, Riddick CLE has Chubb, Hunt, ? BAL has Dobbins, Edwards, Hill NO has Kamara, Murray, Montgomery LAR has Akers, Henderson, ? None of the players listed had more yards than Monty last year. Thoughts?

A somewhat interesting nugget came out about Moses. It sounds like he was asked to play LT and wanted to stay at RT, so he signed with the Jets. Several interesting takes. LT's make a lot more than RT's, so I wonder if it was for the same amount, so he didn't want to switch without a raise? Was he depth at LT and wanted to start? My assumption is Jenkins at LT and Ifedi at RT with Borom backing him up. So LT makes sense if you were bringing him in as insurance and depth. I don't how much the Bears could gauge on the progress of Jenkins without pads and basically 3 weeks of walk-throughs.

Sounds like Goldman might be out of shape or retiring or something, he didnt show for mandatory minicamp after sitting out the year last year. It doesnt sound like a contract dispute the way Nagy talked about it. People were very forgiving that he chose to sit out the season last year - I always thought it showed a lack of heart for the game and the team. Also, if he's pulling this crap, it would have been decent of him to give us a heads up before the draft. He is currently on my crap list.

Seems like NT Mike Pennel has signed a one year deal. Given that Goldman was a no show, this is probably insurance and depth. But it definitely says that the Bears weren't thrilled with Goldman's absence, and need options. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/06/17/bears-agree-to-terms-with-mike-pennel-on-a-one-year-deal/

Ok, so as long as I'm overblowing little things and reading too much into them, here's a good one about Desai. Jackson compared his style more to "Vic" Fangio than "Chuck" Pagano - seems to indicate that his responsibilities would be more similar to Fangio's defense than last year's. GOOD. If we field and explosive offense, then a gambling defense is a good pairing with that. No need to play it so safe. Maybe that's why the pass rush was kind of sleepy too. And he also said that Desai was being tough with the players. Also great to see. I like to hear this, getting Jackson back to prime form would be huge for this defense.

Landing Justin Fields added a new chapter that no one knew was coming. We figured this book was ending with the Red Rifle leading the Bears down a tanking season with hopes of landing a top 1-3 pick next year. Could you imagine going through that scenario and then the top QB prospect is from North Carolina. That would have been a nightmare. The magic that just happened guaranteed a sequel. As I look at this team and it's new needs, next season I am thinking they are looking for a WR and CB as high priority (2-3). It would be nice to get another WR with size and also find a solid replacement for Fuller. Then (5,6, & 7) S, OLB, ILB, & DT are all needs the D …

OK so this is a little thing. But ugh. So Nagy is on a zoom meeting explaining that he will not be on the field during the first practice because of a COVID rule, and that he will be watching on a remote video screen. And he makes a joke, saying he will be watching the offense score all over the defense. I think he was hoping some defensive coaches would rib him back. And he prompts Desai, saying "right?" and Desai agrees with him. Grrr. Now maybe he wasnt really paying attention. Or maybe he is afraid to speak up to the head coach. But this guy just recently had his squad skip OTAs while most of the offense showed up. We are all so thrilled at the changes …

From 2011-2020, there are only 2 NFL teams that are in the top 5 in the league in the following schedule categories: 1. Games with less rest than opponents (NYG - 2nd (39), CHI - 5th (31)) 2. # of short week road games (NYG - T/1st (16), CHI - T/4th (14)) 3. # of games off road SNF or MNF (NYG - 2nd (20), CHI - T/4th (17)) Overall with all the other factors, the Bears had the 27th worst scheduling variables over the past decade and one of the biggest disparities between division opponents (27th > GB 13th, Vikings 12th, Lions 4th). Seattle (30th) to LAR (14th) was the biggest. https://www.nbcsports.com/edge/article/offseason-research/teams-most-impa…

So, now that we see a window of hope opening up, and with Nagy and Pace still scrambling to secure their jobs past whatever bubble they've created from this draft, it might be time to add some quality free agents to put us in the hunt. And there are quite a few good names still available, and since the cap shrunk, they will likely be lowish money short term deals. Especially at EDGE, DB, and OL I just saw this, and a lot of these players could really help. Add two, and we are looking kind of dangerous.

A lot of us, including myself, have voiced negative opinions of Quinn because he only produced 2 sacks last year. However I have read several articles, including the one I have linked below, stating in 2020 he was a top "disruptor" ( #10 with Aaron Donald #6). I've read other articles with him rated even higher. So I'm wondering if I need to give him some slack and hope his sacks increase to what it should be for a "top disruptor" which the article agrees is unusually low. I seldom believe all that is reported in practice sessions by the coaching staff. You never hear negatives. Everything is superlative adjectives. Every player sounds like a future hall of famer. A G.O.A.T. That is until it is time to cut the roster down. However, on occasion you hear something that is factual and not subjective. I find this quote from ChicagoBears.com very encouraging in regards to J Fields progress: To me, on his first day working with the team, that's amazing!

I'm seeing breaking news reports that Aaron Rodgers is possibly wanting GB to trade him. Things have been slowly devolving there concerning his contract past the 2021 season. How crazy is this. Per Adam Schefter that Rodgers is so disgruntled that he has told some members of the organization that he does not want to return to the team. Curious what it would take. Wouldn't the Packers have to take a huge cap hit to trade him? I know his guaranteed money is all paid out after 2021 and they could even cut him (not that they would) next year with no hit. Holy crap what timing for that story to come out as the 2021 draft starts tonight.
