NBCSports.com's Tom Curran reports the Dolphins are nearing a contract agreement with Michigan OT Jake Long. The deal would make Long the No. 1 overall pick. The Dolphins began talks with Long's agent, Tom Condon, two weeks ago and never engaged in serious deliberations with any other player. Curran writes that with Long off the board, St. Louis is "a lock" to use the No. 2 pick on a defensive player. UVA DE Chris Long is reportedly "very confident" he'll be the Rams' choice

The way I see it, the Bears QB and RB situation are nearly the same. QB: Two average starters who have done well at times, horrible at others. Nobody from other teams is scared of either Bears' QB. RB: Two average starters (and a younger guy who is outside the box), who have some good qualities, but several bad ones as well. Nobody from other teams is going to stack the box because they're afraid of the Bears' running game. So, all the talk about Mendenhall got me thinking.... What would you guys think if the Bears selected Brohm at 14? Assuming Ryan is gone, then Brohm is basically regarded as the second best QB, which is essentially what selecting…

I was thinking we can do a Talkbears consensus pick for each selection up until the Bears pick. No trades, etc. I will then remove the selected player and make another poll until we get to 14 (hopefully before the real draft). If it goes quick, we can go beyond and have two mocks to compare on draft day. The minimum will be 20 total votes or 10 votes for one player to move on. I am curious to see how this plays out.

I think right now the setting calls for only like 10 or 15 threads on each page (ie, when you go into the Bears forum, you only see 10 or 15 threads), but would people prefer a few more threads when you go to the forum as the default? The activity has been booming and with that it has forced some threads off of page 1 pretty quickly so I'm thinking if we can keep a few more on page 1 it will keep discussion going in more threads. Anyway, just give me a yeah or nay on the idea.

Hey Guys/Gals For a while I've been working on creating a Chicago Sports blog, which is related to this site and than a few other message boards (the Sox site I run as well) and I was going to see if anyone here is interested in writing bloggish pieces on Chicago sports teams. I know in the past Bearstalk used to have a front page and this blog will at least kind of be able to act in a similar sense (as there will be a section dedicated to stories/write-ups on the Bears). Looking at the draft, it is quite possible that when we pick, the #2 RB (whether that be Mendenhall or Stewart) will still be on the board. Three teams in the four picks after ours (Det, Az and Houston) all could be looking to upgrade their run game, which means if a team wants one of these two RBs, they may need to move up to our pick, in front of those other teams. Heck, if one of those teams really likes one RB over the other, they may even be looking to move up a couple slots, like if AZ loved Mendy, and felt Det would take him. I just saw on espn that Carolina DE Rucker(Spelled right?) just retired. Could they now target someone like harvey instead of taking o-line. Could albert or clady fall to us? If Carolina picks harvey and ryan falls to baltimore then maybe clady or if kc passes on albert this could be good news for us. I'd pass on otah, he's knocked about his footwork and may struggle in passing situations. Denver and KC could be our only spoilers, but you never know. Both players aren't happy where they are. The Bears need help at WR. The Bengals need a playmaker at LB. We all know this trade would never, ever happen. But if it was offered, who would turn it down and why?

Listening to ESPN Radio today, and McShay was on and talking QBs. He was asked if the bears would consider a QB at 14. He then talked about how it has been rumored for a while that a team in the teens was considering Henne. He went on to talk about how he separately knew that Chicago is in fact very high on Henne. Said they/we love his size and arm strength. Also mentioned our liking Flacco. He is not predicting Chicago will take Henne at 14, but he and Kiper are both talking about how they keep hearing about a team in the teens who is looking at QB that few realize. Of all the players we have talked about taking at 14, I don't think any make me as sick…

Just heard Mayock on ESPNradio1000 predict that some teams will move up for Flacco/Henne before Miami has a crack at them with the 32nd pick. Question? Would you trade your 2nd and a 3rd or something along those lines for a 2nd First round pick. Also side note: he said that Flacco is "something special" in person whatever that means.
