Looks like there's some merit to the earlier post... http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/be...-bear05.article Team thrift foils Angelo, Kirwan says BEARS | NFL Radio analyst claims free-agent pursuit curtailed by spending limits Recommend (7) Comments March 5, 2009 BY BRAD BIGGS bbiggs@suntimes.com Free agency is a week old today, and so far the Bears have only versatile offensive lineman Frank Omiyale -- with one career start -- to show for it. They're not the only team that has done more window shopping than buying, a product of a diluted free-agent pool and a weakened economy that has some organizations tightening their bel…

If the first quarter is any indicator, we're going to see a repeat of last year. The offense is going to have to score 30 ppg to even be in some of these games. I have zero faith in Mel Tucker. Also, Briggs is done. He can't run anymore.

  8. Joe Flacco is the Broncos QB, they played on MNF, and lost to the Raiders. Derek Carr was not sacked, and Flacco was sacked 3 times by the Raiders defense. Carr also completed 84.6% of his passes. The defense should shred the Broncos O-Line. The guy I am most worried about is Sanders, as he is like Albert Wilson and Randall Cobb, very slippery working out of the slot. I am less worried about Vic Fangio knowing the offense and don't think this will be a very big factor. The Bears need a win here because the odds of making the playoffs after a 1-1 start vs an 0-2 start is huge. I don't even need to see a huge game from Trubisky, just play better, make bette…

  9. Started by adam,

Wow, shocked at this one. I didn't think he fit the mold they were looking for. A good pass catcher, but so-so blocker. Seems like an overpay after what Burton makes. $8M AAV for a soon to be 34 yr old TE? Hooper got $11M a year for 4 years. We save 3M but get a much older TE. Odd move for me.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/footb...,7544443.column What this is, if you don't want to click it, is pretty much David Haugh ripping Cutler. Now, I understand every QB has a bad game here and there, and I've been Cutler's BIGGEST supporter. At some point, however, when will he be considered a bust? Even when he had a great OL in Denver and made the Pro Bowl, he threw only 7 more TD's than INT's and made the PB because of an injury. The last 2 seasons, he's started out 3-1 and 3-0, and it's been downhill from there. How long do they give him? If he throws 8 more TD's the rest of the year and another 18 INT's, is this his last year? Do they give him next y…

  14. Starting out the gates +10 seems a little high after a 9 pts win and GB's double digit loss. Oddsmakers still have no faith in this team. Can you imagine if the Bears win and head into an easier part of their schedule, 2-0 while GB sits at 0-2? That would be wild. If I go off Week 1s results, I would probably say the Bears win, but going off historical data, it looks like GB should win by a TD. So I am going to say Bears by 3, 27-24!

A couple takeaways: From a leverage perspective - I walk away from this thinking it is 60/40 they stick with Fields, which might have been strategic. Is going to force a team wanting #1 to blow them away and also force a team interested in Fields to call them with a pretty strong offer. But I get a sense from Poles of - I want to build a really good football team and he didn't seem as concerned with QB as maybe Ryan Pace was. He seems like - I'll build a really good team and keep doing it and will figure out QB, whether Fields or someone else. Don't get the sense that it has to be with #1 pick. Re: LT/RT - Seems happy with Braxton Jones & Wright…

  17. Day 6 looks like kyle is back even if not ahead of rex now. Kyle and Rex both had pics in today's camp, but rex also fumbled 2 (yeah I said it 2) frickin snaps! Kyle's pic was pretty close to the same as Rex's ,as they were both going for the long bomb, but you will also notice on the video, that rex should have had at least one more pic when either vasher or mcbride batted the ball away down the left side of the field. Rex looked like the qb of old as he had his fumblitis with the snaps, throws into double coverage, and numerous batted down passes at the line. The commentator said the kyle is even if not slightly ahead after today, and I'd have to say that it appear…

  19. Bears 8-3 at Giants 3-8 Based on DVOA, the Bears are 12th on offense and 1st on defense. The Giants have the 18th ranked offense and 28th ranked defense. The Giants got off to an awful 1-7 start but have played much better after their bye going 2-1. They just lost to the Eagles 25-22, after winning two straight against TB and SF. 10 of their games have been decided by a TD or less. The key is going to be stopping Barkley, who makes up most of their offense. He commonly is the leading rusher and receiver on the team. Manning is prone to sacks and INT's though, and I have a feeling that a fresh Bears defense is going to dominate. The big question for us is …

Lions visit Chicago for the late game on Sunday. Huge playoff implication matchup, esp. for the Bears. Lose, and the team is 5-4 and the Lions hold the head to head tiebreaker, meaning the Bears might well need 11 wins to make the playoffs...leaving them having to go 6-1 in their last 7 including a trip to Lambeau. Win, and the road to the playoffs opens up. Big game.
