We're not done on the OL. In free agency I think we are at that point where there are a bunch of equally rated players around, and no one wants to be first to pay one. Pace is smart to bide his time. I also think that we will probably be taking an OG or OT in the 2nd round. Don't sleep on the OT position, no ones talking about it, but we may be looking there more than OG. I see at least 2 more players coming at OL before the draft and free agency are over.

That was, by far, the OL's best game as a unit all season BY A LANDSLIDE. The only player who had 2 or more false starts was Williams, and I think only Omiyale had the other. Hell, it even rubbed off on the usual patty-cake Olsen, who smashed a Jet enroute to Forte's TD run.

After three games, it is clear to me that the OL unit rested on the laurels of last year. I'm not concerned because there has been steady improvement from week to week. Daniels will be fine at center once he gets his calls right. Leno looks he didn't work at all in camp, but is battling. Long looks very rusty, hopefully not washed up. My main thought is that Nagy had the entire offensive side of the team not ready for the start of the season. Looks like he's righting the ship weekly.

After watching the game on DVR, I was able to see a few things. DL - I'm not worried by talent anymore. I really like what I saw from McClellin, Wootten, Davis, Melton and Collins. Seems like we are going to have plenty of push from the interior. Peppers may feast this year. Idonije may lose his starting position to a platoon of Wootten and Mac. Damn, McClellin can close fast. OL - Spencer and E Williams were complete turds - horrible. Louis and Garza looked OK. Now the tackles. None of them looked all that good. C Williams looking the best of the 3. Carimi and Williams engage their assignment much faster than Webb / Williams at tackle. Webb is phys…

Because of a previous discussion on this board, I thought about analyzing only the OL during an entire game. It took a second to train my eyes to only watch the OL, and even then it was difficult a few times, but the focus was there 99.9% of the time. I realize everything is subjective in this regard (i.e. scheme, blitzes, pickup responsibilities, etc.) but I tried to focus on what the jobs of the OLinemen were. For instance, in the 17th offensive play in the first half Bell had a great rush pickup; the fact that the defensive player got in without being sniffed is a negative on the OL. I realize this is not always accurate because in some alignments the OL is not res…

I realize many were disappointed when Gross and Carey re-signed, not to mention Starks getting tagged, but it seems like the pool of FA OL is not bad at all. I see quality at both OG and OT. PFW just came out w/ their list of top 100 FAs (though they include restricted and tagged players). I was surprised to see how many OL were on the list. Not only that, but we are seeing more veterans getting cut for cap reasons than expected, and they have not even made the list yet, like Brandon Moore. 11. Our oline is ranked top 15, I think 11th last time I checked. Next year we have 5 OL signed to contracts. Long, Leno, Whitehair, Daniels and Sowell On the roster this year are: those 5 plus Kush Coward Massie Witzmann PS: Dejon Allen and Willie Beavers I think Long will be back but the multi injuries with cause concern for his future. I think we resign Witzmann and Coward and Coward becomes our RT going forward.( they have kept him on the roster all year even though he has not played) I think W. Beavers gets promoted to the roster and is looked as a swing tackle going forward.( he was ranked as a 4th round pick in his draft) …

  14. Started by Bill,

I have read many articles that said Daniels had problems reading his calls on the DL when playing center. Which was the main reason for him moving. Not a whole lot saying he could not physically play the position. Playing center would also allow him to have help from either guard and vice versos would allow hime to help from either side. But maybe I'm wrong. My question is why does the center have to make the calls. Why can't one of the guards do that like WH playing left guard with Daniels playing center. it can't be just seeing the alignment of the defense. Any of the guards or center would see that clearly. What am I missing

There is no way this should happen. The franchise pick deserves much better defending him. https://www.totalprosports.com/nfl/bears-sam-mustipher-confused-justin-fields-mnf/?fbclid=IwAR2NxLlxiVwbdiDrX8fwaeg47E1T7G6ZJ5LS7SlB0zjl4qT02rTIg65wfdQ

  17. Started by Alaskan Grizzly,

Was pondering the OL situation (probably the Achille's Heel on the Offense right now) the other day and came up with a "what if" situation. Since Pace is having a heck of a time at LT (and I know that is his "natural" position) why not switch him out with Williams? Obviously, Williams is going to eventually move back to LT, where he played in college, so why not go there now? Having Pace on the Right side would help Cutler out a bunch as when he rolls out he looks that way anyhow. And when Pace loses the leverage on the rush then Cutler can make the adjustment needed without worrying as much about the blindside rush. Which brings me to the other side. I think with Wi…

  19. Started by BearFan PHX,

I've been seeing a bunch of online rumor-mongering around the idea of a trade deadline deal for an Offensive Lineman. All of it seems to be around the Guard position. There are at least three different names I've read. I'm not saying this is going to happen at all. Just that people farming for clicks have been saying it. But my question to you guys is, if you were going to trade for an OL at the deadline, and assume the player would be pretty good, but not necessarily blue chip, like a top 10 guy, but not a top 5 guy - which position would you trade for? Which current OL would you replace? For me the OG question has been a little better with Pryor and Jenkins/Mu…

Was scrolling and found the below. I don't think we'll be heavily investing in OL next year. Trapillo looks like he's ready to be the guy. Benedet can be the next man up at all five positions. If Kiran gets his act together, we're deep for the next two years...
