Between this year and last year, this period may be the most exhausting as a fan. There is random hints of promise only to be crashed back down to the depths of hell. The NE game last year feels like the WSH game this year. After that game, everyone figured that the Bears had righted the ship and things were going to continue to trend in a positive direction. Clearly cutler has the tools, and more natural talent than Kyle Orton. Fine. But bringing him into this situation, namely a mediocre to poor defense with no secondary whatsoever, and no personnel movements made to shore up the secondary, and the most predictable offense in the leauge, was doomed from the start. While everyone was overcome with man-crushes on Cutler, I found myself wondering: is he going to play cornerback? The Denver Broncos may have seriously damaged their relationship with quarterback Jay Cutler. A source close to the situation confirmed the Broncos were trying to acquire quarterback Matt Cassel from the New England Patriots by dangling Cutler, their Pro Bowl quarterback. The trade talk infuriated Cutler, who now wants to leave the Broncos. Hey Guys, I'm very optimistic about our new staff and roster. I've been hoping for something like this, and it seems to me that they are doing all the right things. That said, I do expect the defense to take a step backward this year. Our "Cover 2" defense should probably be called a "One Gap" defense, since it's more about the front than the coverage behind it. Our aggressive scheme asks defensive linemen to get into their gaps and get upfield. This leaves 4 other gaps for LBs and a Safety to be responsible for. I find it very interesting that this ENTIRE board is mum on Kyles performance yesterday. I find it admirable that he played, dont get me wrong, but his lack of mobilty restricted play action calls and roll outs. If he couldnt play at an highlevel and he knew they would have to restrict the playbook due to his injury, he should not have played. We can debate all we want about the coaches and defense, but he was simply bad yesterday. Bears signed DT Matt Toeaina off the Bengals' practice squad. A sixth-round pick out of Oregon in April, Toeaina immediately becomes the Bears' fifth defensive tackle. He was known as a run stopper with the Ducks. Bears signed former Rams DT Jimmy Kennedy on Tuesday. Kennedy, a 2003 first-round pick by the Rams, has been a bust in the NFL and has not played this season after being waived by the Broncos in training camp. We made it to the superbowl last year with Lovie, Turner, and Rivera as the main coaches. Now, this year we lose Rivera and bring in Babich and on paper this current team looked better than last years. As we all have seen, this team has regressed from years previous and there are reasons for it but It seems everyone is overlooking the coaches, and blaming it on the offensive line, and Cedric Benson. Halfway through the season, we are now 3-6. It's not where most thought we'd be, while it was with others. Sitting in year two of a massive rebuild, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
